Dear Lincoln,
You are now six years old! I'm sure you've heard me say this over and over and over, but I can't believe how quickly time has gone. I don't remember life without you in it, but then I look at your baby pictures and think "wasn't that just last year?".
At your six year wellness check, you weighed 49 lbs (75%) and are 47" (90%). You've stayed in the 75% for both height and weight since you were two years old, until now when you jumped into the 90% for height. Dr. Woodward says you'll be a big boy...no way, not my 9 lb 11 ounce 23 inch baby :)
You started kindergarten a few weeks ago and love it. Your teacher is Ms. Oaks and you have Kyler, Nate and Reagan in your class. You get to ride the bus to and from school and I think this makes you feel like a big kid. The bus picks you up across the street from our house, so I get to watch you board the bus every morning. From the very first day, you've had older kids- mostly girls- want you to sit by them and to "help" you. I love to watch each morning as someone new tries to convince you to sit by them and not anyone else. You wear your sunglasses every day, as you always have, and the other day I watched an older boy watching you. After studying you for a few seconds, he turned to his friend and said, "He does look pretty cool." It made my heart happy. You have always had a love for people and crowds and are sometimes too friendly, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
You're incredibly smart. I know all parents think this about their kids, but even Dr. Woodward told me he thinks you're going to be way above average intelligent. You are so curious about everything around you and enjoy learning new things. That being said, you hate to hold still. As your Dad says, "you have bee's in your head.". You are a wiggle butt and your mind seems to jump from one thing to another trying to take in as much as it can. Some teachers/people may see it as a form of ADHD and, because of that, you may have struggles with certain teachers in school. I pray that's not the case and that you can learn to focus- even on the things that seem to bore you. You love school and I will be so sad if that ever changes.
You can count to 100, know all your shapes and colors, are starting to read 3-4 letter words, can do basic addition and subtraction, have started coloring in the lines, and still love to sing and dance.
You have an obsession with "pets" aka-stuffed animals. You've had this obsession for over a year now and it's getting worse :) You have a specific pet obsession with Angry Birds right now. You had an Angry Bird birthday party and now have all the birds/piggys in the big and small sizes. Your awesome Dad made you an Angry Bird birthday cake and you thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Your best friend is still your brother and you love to be boss him around. Thankfully, he still doesn't mind most of the time and lets you be in charge. You share a bedroom with Grant and when I asked you if you wanted to have your own room you replied, "why would I want to have a room without Grant?". You treat your "Lucy Pie" like a princess. You adore her and I love watching you interact with her. You're very good at being my big helper and with helping take care of her.
You're growing up way too fast. Every new milestone you reach makes my heart swell with pride and breaks it all at the same time. I love that you still love snuggles and hugs and kisses and back scratches and to be held. You're my Linky Log and "I love you the most". Happy Birthday Buddy.
